PHW Group participating in global G7 initiative for sustainable supply chains

Rechterfeld, 17 December 2021.Improving the ecological, social and nutritional impacts of supply chains and  reducing consequently the climate emissions of its business activities: The PHW Group has set itself these goals as one of 30 globally operating food and agricultural companies participating in the G7 Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative (G7 Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative - Chair's Statement 16 December - G7 UK Presidency 2021). As part of this initiative, a virtual meeting of all companies took place yesterday together with ministers from the G7 countries.

The initiative for a sustainable and resilient food and agricultural sector wants to tackle an industry-wide transformation. The guiding principlesare based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. They enable companies to grow sustainably in harmony with nature, biodiversity and agriculture. This initiative is intended to offer other companies an incentive to follow the example of the 30 initiative members in addition to implementing appropriate measures aimed at improving the sustainability of supply chains.

“Sustainability does not stop with your own company or at national borders. It’s a global task that calls for unity if we want to progress. We are delighted to be part of the G7 initiative and to continuously review and improve our supply chains in an international comparison. Exchanges with globally active companies and supranational political representatives will take us even further in our ambitious sustainability efforts”, comments Peter Wesjohann, CEO of the PHW Group.

Background information:

Sustainable operations have been firmly rooted in PHW Group structures for decades. For example, back in 2009 we founded a Sustainability Council, while our locations now also have their own sustainability teams. The third-generation family-run company is positioned as a supplier of top quality protein products: in addition to the core business area focused on the production and marketing of high-quality poultry specialties, the PHW Group launched the alternative protein sources business unit in 2017. Sustainability efforts are currently above all centred on key issues such as animal welfare, environmental protection, the circular economy, alternative protein sources, animal feed, raw materials, packaging and social engagement. Since 2020, production processes at the family company’s six WIESENHOF sites in Germany, which are all certified in accordance with the “ZNU standard - driving sustainable change”, have been organised on a 100% climate-neutral basis. Last year, the PHW Group received international recognition for its commitment to sustainability after being selected as one of the 50 UN Sustainability & Climate Leaders.

Further information on the PHW Group’s sustainability targets can be found in the most recent sustainability report, which is available at: https://www.phw-gruppe.de/en/sustainability/#nachhaltigkeitsbericht.
