ZNU and IFTA AG certify Märkische Geflügelhof Spezialitäten GmbH’s sustainable management

Rechterfeld, May 2014. A sustainable approach to business means taking responsibility for improving one’s own processes: Following in the footsteps of the Nienburg poultry specialist business “Nienburger Geflügelspezialitäten” based in Wietzen/Holte, Märkische Geflügelhof-Spezialitäten GmbH in Königs Wusterhausen has been successfully certified to the ZNU (Center for Sustainable Leadership) “Sustainable Food Business” standard: “Sustainability enjoys a top priority in everything we do. That’s why I am particularly pleased that our day-to-day efforts have been rewarded and that the company Märkische Geflügelhof-Spezialitäten GmbH achieved top marks in this comprehensive audit,” explained the Managing Director, Gerhard Heil, during the official presentation of this certificate by IFTA AG.

In order to be successfully certified to the ZNU standard, a special sustainability team was set up in 2013 at the Wiesenhof site in Königs Wusterhausen. This team comprises staff from management, quality control, controlling, technology and human resources departments as well as an animal welfare officer. “The audit for certification to the ZNU standard is extremely thorough. Amongst other things, it is assessed whether sufficient resources are channelled into ensuring that sustainability goals are reached. The use of renewable energies and innovative environmental technologies, quality management, the programme of measures to guarantee compliance with animal welfare standards, the quality of consumer information, further training opportunities for staff and social involvement all form part of this extensive audit,” remarked Prof. Dr Jörn Karge, Director of IFTA AG Berlin.

“Sustainability is not merely a buzzword for us. We endeavour to reconcile competitiveness with ecological and social responsibility on a daily basis. Through information material and participative processes, we take an ongoing and forward

looking approach to sustainability. The very best results and future improvements can only be achieved when every single employee commits to the concept of sustainability and makes this a principle in his or her daily actions,” stressed Heil.

Following the successful certification of Nienburger Geflügelspezialitäten GmbH and Märkische Geflügelhof-Spezialitäten GmbH, the PHW Group’s slaughterhouses in Wildeshausen, Möckern, Bogen and Lohne and the Wiesenhof poultry sausage processing operation in Rietberg are now preparing for certification to the ZNU standard.
